thirteen-year old Eugne Goostman? Turing, widely considered the father
of computer science, became famous for cracking the Nazi’s Enigma
machine and his Turing Test
has become the de facto method for determining a machine’s artificial
intelligence. But recent news from the largest Turing test in history
suggests even Turing himself might have been fooled by the seemingly
normal teenage Goostman.
To many attendees, Eugene was just a typical seventh-grader from a
middle-class family, awkward with peculiar sense of humor. It was that
distinctive personality that led to Eugene winning the top prize at the
Turing 100 event, after 29% of respondents mistook the artificial chat
bot for a real person. A machine passes the Turing Test if it can trick
30% of the humans it interacts with into thinking it too is human.
